Soldier Fly Damage

Soldier fly has reared its ugly head once again; the dry weather is not helping the problem. There is no chemical control for this pest and the best way to control it is with long bare fallow or a legume crop such as soybeans.

Destroyed all food sources that soldier fly feed on such as old cane stubble and grasses. Tomatoes, capsicums and sorghum are very good hosts for soldier fly so it is not wise to plant these types of crops into blocks where soldier fly have been found.

Autumn plant is not a good option as the fallow is not long enough to decrease the numbers of soldier fly larve.
